Floral carpet @ Fountain Square

I had some business to take care of in the Fifth Third building today, and from way above Fountain Square could see that the floral carpet (pictured) is now gone. That was fast! Still, it was pretty while it lasted. Thanks for the memories, floral carpet!

Moral busybodies and the law

OTR Ale Festival

Originally uploaded by dynamist.

Antoine and I wandered up to the Over-the-Rhine Ale Festival at Findlay Market today, where he very much enjoyed the new Christian Moerlein OTR Ale (and I cooled off with a Diet Pepsi). I believe that the area there used to be Cincinnati’s Brewery District. We read a sign outside […]

Cincinnati Salon: Clarification

Antoine is here! I dragged his jet-lagged ass all over downtown as soon as we got back from the airport: late lunch at Nicholson’s (the wood-smoked salmon with salad is lovely), a fast tour of local stores, and a whiplash tour of Carew Tower before we headed home via Fountain Square. And who did we […]

My music

I’ve started building a repository of my favorite music here. (And when I say ‘building,’ I mean pasting YouTube URLs into a WordPress template. Five minute job.) It’s mostly borne of discovering lots of my beloved old Britpop songs on YouTube and wanting to have a place where I can keep them and play them […]

Friday music: Siobhan Donaghy

Kylie meets Portishead in a pretty, perfectly styled ginger package.

If this post were a dinosaur, it’d be a linkalotapus

* Dave Winer has advice for one tech journalist which I think ALL journalists would do well to consider: [D]o research, the story is on the web, not the telephone. I never fail to be amazed at the number of journalists who ask me questions about myself which could be easily answered with even the […]

Desperately seeking anti-Americanism

So…Segolene Royal knows she’s on a hiding to nothing in her attempt to win the French presidency. So what’s her last-ditch, desperate attempt to sway voters?
Accuse Sarkozy of kissing America’s collective ass, and President Bush’s specific ass.

I updated my mess

There is now a new about page, new contact information, and more recent information on the sidebar. (This is one of those things I’ve wanted to do for a while, and isn’t that difficult, but is just a bit of a pain in the backside. Next on the list: Regular bathing.) (Just kidding. I never […]

Everybody hates a tourist

With all of the discussion and debate around ‘diversity’ and labels of late (including a really productive conversation last night with this bunch), one of my favorite records from the Britpop era keeps going through my head. I had forgotten just how bad-ass the video is, too.

She told me that her dad was loaded / […]

“Oh, really, now?” quote of the day

I’m finding a number of PR firms that are really dishonest.
-Mike Arrington, explaining the TechCrunch policy on exclusives and embargoes

“I am a transsexual sports writer”

Mike Penner, who will soon be Christine Daniels, has an extremely well-written explanation for his readers. What a class act.

Reality is reality

PR people have their own set of gospel truths, one of the most mistaken being that perception is reality. (I thank Adriana for getting me into the habit of pushing the truth that reality is reality.) They are holding onto it with a death grip, despite the debunking and revelation we see happening online on […]

Cincinnati Salon

Salon as in idea-driven gathering, not as in getting our hair did. Read more about the new Cincinnati Salon here. Our first salon happens one week from today, downtown, and the speaker will be someone visiting from London whose name I may have mentioned on this blog a time or two million. His topic, inspired […]

Three cheers for Barney Frank

He’s leading congressional efforts to repeal America’s moral busybody-driven ban on online gambling.
