Mejana

As Sean Fisher notes in the comments here, the downtown Lebanese restaurant formerly next to the Terrace Hotel, Mejana, has moved to Tri-County Mall. This is also what I was told by one half of the husband and wife team that owns Marrakech, which bought some tables and chairs from Mejana. (Marrakech is consequently […]

This is why I never answer my cell phone

ME: Where are you?
FRIEND: In Monte Carlo, sitting outside, looking out at the Mediterranean. Might go out on the yacht later. Where are you?
ME: In Cincinnati, waiting for the builders to come finish my new apartment so I can unpack, trying to get a bird out of my living room. Might go buy a pint […]

the bird thing is happening again!

The noise is unbelievable. This town is small - someone must know what this nightly bird jamboree is about. Tell me, dammit!

The hassle of Heathrow

You mean the government has only just noticed what a gigantic pain in the backside Heathrow is? Jesus wept.

If you still own stock in Classmates.com, sell it now

When I was a kid, one of my favorite things to do was pore over my dad’s high school yearbooks. I’d get him to tell me old stories about the people in the pictures, and was always disappointed after all the laughs to hear that he didn’t keep in touch with any of them. (He’s […]

Science by committee

I’m enjoying this wifi I’m riding while it lasts, catching up on tons of feeds. This post, on how if anthropogenic global warming is real, it is now inevitable, is very much worth reading, as are the comments. I especially enjoyed this one:
You are of course all aware that the average car uses more carbon […]

Infidel

I’m currently engrossed in Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. I can’t give anything approximating a review until I’ve finished it, but I’ll say this: Disagree as I do with Ali on many matters, she has lived an extraordinary, brave life. It’s a great gift from her to share some of it with […]

The modernist need to assign blame

There’s a great verse in Ecclesiastes where the preacher says that “time and chance occurs to everyone.” This doesn’t sit well with us, because it says that life is bigger than we are and that, well, shit happens.
Terry Heaton turns in another good one.

A new mission

Jim’s going away party

I want to take pictures from the porches of all of my friends’ houses in Kentucky. The views are just so great, and once you sit down there, you just do not want to move. Of course, I’m basing this on a sample of only two friends, but still! […]

More downtown wildlife weirdness

First, racoons congregating on street corners in Over-the-Rhine. NOW there are approximately six million birds descending on Piatt Park and surrounding buildings. I’m not joking - the racket is unbelievable, and flock upon flock keeps swooping onto the trees and perching on ledges lining Garfield Place. It’s spooky! Is there an earthquake coming or something?

Oh yeah

I meant to say: I have extremely sporadic online access until Wednesday, due to Cincinnati Bell being some slow-ass mofos. I also have no home landline right now, due to there being holes in my walls where the outlets should be. I can still grab email and take calls on my BlackBerry. (I think my […]

in like Flynn

The apartment WAS ready…ish. Much improved on last night and fine to move into. Small stuff will be done over the next few days - which is fine, since my lease does not actually start until August 1.
My moving guy (who was fab; he did some work for me back in March too) told me […]

Moving day

The new place

Originally uploaded by dynamist.

I went over to my new apartment at 7PM on Friday night to check that it was ready for moving in first thing Saturday morning.
Let’s just say that, based on what I saw, I have my doubts. Yes, the fridge (just delivered) is still in the middle of […]
