Which, of course, would be reason enough to fly every week. Luckily I can tie that in with quite a lot of work, too.
Not long after returning from Ireland and London, I am getting ready for trips to Los Angeles, New York, and Boston in the next two weeks. Want to get together? Drop me […]

This story is the funniest thing I have read all day. Granted, CEOs and journalists making asses of themselves is always funny, but the Canadian element makes it that bit more amusing. (The comments have gotten off to a good start, too.)

The amount of corporate welfare extended to airlines is enough to make even an infrequent traveler weep. Jeff Nolan pretty much nails it:
For 7 years I have been hearing airlines complain about one thing after another, all while taking billions of dollars of taxpayer bailout money…The major carriers have decreased the amount of maintenance they […]

I mean, if you would even call this an apology, which I would not:
President Clinton was understandably upset about an outrageously unfair article, but the language today was inappropriate and he wishes he had not used it.
I’m sure he does!
Dave Winer (an Obama supporter whose politics I abhor) has some great points about the news […]

Flying as much as I do, I could easily run an entire blog that consists only of stories of airline industry idiocy. Ed Cone has a pretty good one, which he sums up thusly:
They don’t know how to allocate their seating categories, they aren’t going to let people spread out across a half-empty plane as […]

I can’t believe she’s done with high school already, but I’m glad that she is - there’s a lot of living outside those walls to be getting on with. Tafv Sampson is the daughter of my friend Nancy Rommelmann and easily the most beautiful person I’ve ever laid eyes upon. (Walking down the street - […]

Daniel leaves tomorrow for ten days in China, even though I begged him to stay here and plot world domination with me. FINE, as long as I get good souvenirs from this trip. Jane (with whom I share an office) comes in halfway through this video interview and gives Daniel some much-needed advice on how […]

When we were hanging out in San Francisco last month, Walshy and I told a bunch of people (strangers) that we were brother and sister. Everyone believed us! (The story was that we had the same mum, different dads; I’d been adopted by a well-off family […]

By Hugh MacLeod, who asks:
Can you show me an interesting, successful product that the geeks hate, but the non-geeks love?
I think the “interesting” qualification makes this a trickier question than it might first appear to be…Ideas?

Guy Herbert on news that a prominent anti-gun campaigner’s grandson has been arrested for stabbing her to death:
Children are not angels corrupted by contact with mundane implements; they are social animals, small brutes that will grow into large brutes unless civilized. A civilized man ought to be able to carry a gun without offering to […]

Tax Freedom Day being that wonderful point in the year when the average taxpayer has finally earned enough to cover all their taxes and at last can start earning for themselves. Guido:
Medieval serfs were forced to work sometimes up to 40 days in the fields for their baronial tyrants. Progress means that taxpayers now work […]

First, brunch with my teen colleague Daniel Brusilovsky, whom SOME people think could pass for being my son.
Then a trip into San Francisco to have dinner with Ben Casnocha and Tim Taylor, which involved a lot of laughing and being laughed at, as per usual.
I don’t know quite why, but the ability to capture and […]

I didn’t eat any of what you see in the video below, but I can’t say it wasn’t tempting. Ditto the artisanal breads and desserts. I did buy some great low-carb, sugar-free cookies from Sweet Temptations‘ stall, a couple of bags of spicy almonds from a local ranch, and a pound of perfect cherries.
