Here’s a secret: I am pretty shy. Sometimes. But not most times! Like today when I jumped in the elevator and started talking to a guy I’d just seen check into my hotel here in New York. I could tell he was one of them there You’re-a-peein’ types.

ME: Where are you from?
HIM: Bay Area.
ME: Yeah, just like I am. But where are you REALLY from?
HIM: Ireland.
ME: Do you know Pat Phelan?
HIM: From Cubic Telecom?

Oh, man! Turns out he doesn’t know Pat but knows of him, reads his blog, and does know many people whom both Pat and I count as mates (like Hilary Keane and the Enterprise Ireland crew, Tom Raftery and others). Something about the smallness of our world just delighted me, in a totally dorky, earnest way. As you can see:
