Allow me to geek out for a second

I still remember the first time I used a mouse, as a junior in high school, in 1994. I also remember the early web software that blew my mind and gave me a glimpse - God, if I’d only known what a small glimpse it was - of a whole new world and future. I find it difficult not to be terribly earnest about how all this changed me.

One of the legends from that era was Marc Andreessen, who co-authored Mosaic, the first web browser I used and liked, and the later iterations under the brand Netscape Navigator. Andreessen was in his early 20s at the time, and was the first young person I saw making real accomplishments in both geekery and business.

So I’m particularly thrilled about what we announced this morning: that Marc Andreessen and his partner Ben Horowitz have made an investment in Qik, and have also joined our board of advisors. (More from the Washington Post, Wired, CNet, and LA Times.)

This is really exciting on a business level, because Marc and Ben are clearly super sharp innovators and amazing when it comes to achieving substantive success with companies on the cutting edge of technology and lifestyle. Even my most jaded and cynical of friends and contacts in the industry have been sending me emails, Twitter DMs and SMS messages along the lines of: Whoa. These guys rock. Congratulations.

Can’t help but agree, and I’m really buzzed to see where we all take Qik from here. We have a superb team that makes my job very fun and gratifying, and with the guidance of Marc and Ben, I’m sure we’ll only go from strength to strength.
