(American) dream come true
Today I had the honor to spend two hours speaking with the leaders of the National University of Singapore’s Entrepreneurship Society about business, marketing, and start-up life. They are here on a ten day trip in conjunction with Stanford University (where Qik gets its exceptionally talented and motivated NUS interns), and I was floored by the experience they’ve already sought and gained. (They alone are responsible for raising $150,000 per year just to keep their society operating, for one example.) It was incredibly energizing. I could have spent all day with them. (I can’t NOT mention the fact that they sang me an early Happy Birthday for tomorrow in English and Chinese.)
We’re so fortunate to live in a country which (for now, anyway) allows us to create products, services, jobs, and wealth in the private sector. I am constantly amazed at the imagination and effort that my Qik colleagues and people like the NUS Entrepreneurship Society leaders are willing to put into making people happy through their business offerings. They make me work harder, work smarter, and take more pleasure in what I do.
I couldn’t be luckier than to live this life. Thanks to the kids who visited today for reminding me of that. I can’t wait to see what they do next.
NB For just a taste of how gifted our Qik interns Minxuan Lee and Audrey Tan are, check out this video they created. It gives a bit more insight into the NUS Entrepreneurship Society and just how awesome they all are.
