An insider’s view of the EU

How I wish I could be in London for this, at my friend Christian Michel’s place, on Wednesday night.

As a friend of mine puts it the European Union would not be so bad if it gave us German autobahns, French food and wines, Luxemburg banking laws, Estonian taxes, the Dutch attitude to sex and drugs, and English-style policing. As in a bad joke we are getting something like English wines, French taxes and German policing.

Dr Syed Kamall, our 6/20 speaker this Wednesday 6th February, will discuss what’s wrong with the beast (and maybe he’ll find some positive aspects). A member of the European Parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg representing London, Syed has an insider’s understanding of the EU. He knows how its works (Commission, Parliament, Council of Ministers, etc). He will describe his own job as an MEP and give his views on current issues, such as the Reform Treaty, foreign policy, immigration, enlargement, etc. Like many politicians, Syed is a brilliant and engaging speaker. Like so few of them, he says it like it is.

Europhile or Eurosceptic, this is your opportunity for a reality check.

Email me or leave a comment if you want Christian’s address and other details.
