Around town

Park + Vine

Walked back to Metronation this afternoon to check some prices on a couple of pieces of furniture. I ended up getting into an hour-long conversation with co-owner George about, oh, everything. I mean, everything: The shift away from the transaction-first economy, diets, Oprah, relationships, parenting, socks on the floor…Not to sound too cheesy, but it was a soul-affirming conversation.
Lisa Yunker, owner of City Roots, came in for a chat and asked how my azaleas were doing, after which I excused myself. Walking home, I waved at Dan in Park + Vine as I passed. Briefly considered stopping in at Enzo’s for another espresso, but I’m still recovering from the one I had yesterday morning.
In many ways, life in downtown Cincinnati is idyllic: cheap, friendly, and high quality. I’m a little bit fearful about how long it can remain this way, as the rest of the market catches on and things become more expensive, more crowded, and perhaps less personable. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy it while I can.

In my minds’ eye, I envision you walking around downtown and OTR, happy and signing, with birds and butterflys flittering around you, as you visit all your merchant friends at their adorable little shops. Like in a Disney movie.
Seriously, that’s kind of how I picture it.
That’s funny, NBS. I can think of few people more ill-suited to a Disney-esque scene than I would be, but the image is making me laugh.
