Carla Sarkozy’s state visit wardrobe

Seems like I’m the only one disappointed by what France’s first lady wore this week. With one bright exception, it was all dowdy, boring, unflattering, and terribly aging. I would have loved to have seen her break out one or two of her vintage catwalk looks for this trip. What a waste of beauty and allure.

She is 39 (or thereabouts). I think you have to cut her some slack. Maybe she didn’t want to outshine her hosts any more than she actually did.
Well, that’s silly reasoning on her part, then. She was always going to outshine everyone. There was no reason to look boring, old, and dumpy while doing so. Yes, she looked amazing compared to plain Sarah Brown, but she’s capable of looking so much better. There would have been no harm at all in that.
I really like her style from last week! Mind you, a lot of it’s the kind of thing I like to wear myself, so there’s probably no surprise there.
What really annoyed me about last week’s State visit was: 1) that so much coverage was given to her clothes (is there nothing else to write about?), and 2) that few journalists seemed able to applaud her style without also criticising Camilla/Sarah Brown/any other woman in the vicinity. Why isn’t it possible to praise one woman without criticising another one in the same breath?
