Cincinnati Photo of the Day

Walking in Kentucky

This was actually taken in Kentucky, so I guess I’d call this the Greater Cincinnati Photo of the Day.

It’s SO refreshing to be back in a country where so much of the population has a normal and healthy attitude towards self-defense. (There’s a knife shop right across the street from this gun shop, which delighted me.) It’s nice to know that not just the criminals and cops are packing around here.

This reminds me of one of the funniest questions I used to get from (supposedly worldly) Europeans all the time: “Aren’t you afraid of getting killed in a drive-by shooting when you’re in America?!” A lot less than I feared being killed or injured by socialized healthcare in Britain, as it happens…

  1. This reminds me how the united states have such a good record when it comes to murder, especially when compared to western Europe. Ok, enough of the sarcasm, sorry.

You may feel safer, but this has nothing whatever to do with the statistical reality of the situation. In fact you are quite obviously less safe. Is this anything to do with the proliferation of deadly weapons ? Without a doubt. btw - I’d be interested to know your position on Iran acquiring a nuclear arsenal, because it seems to me that this is close metaphor for allowing nut jobs to buy their own gun. Sure as long as we have more and better nukes than them then all will be OK, just like with guns ?

  2. Others who agree with you already lost this argument in the comments here. And no, I’m not more safe by any measure. Then again, if a world where only madmen and governments like the Bush administration can get their hands on weapons strikes you as ideal, we’re probably not going to agree on much.

  3. Jackie, you are right to fear British hospitals. If in doubt see here:
