I took this while sitting on the south bank of the Ohio River, over in Kentucky, so technically this is the Greater Cincinnati Photo of the Day.
Yesterday I decided to go for a run over to Covington and back, as a way of making amends for all of the restaurant meals and party buffets that have found their way into my life lately. Halfway there, my friend Karri called me, so I had permission to sit on a bench for a while and rest. It was while talking to her that this creature emerged, whatever it is. Looks like a woodchuck to me, but it’s on the beach, so…sandchuck? I have no idea.

As for the animal, that’s what would, on the Ohio side of the river, be called a “groundhog.” They probably have a completely different name for it over there.
I am a Kentuckian and I always have called them “groundhogs”. There are a lot of them in the railroad yards around Mill Creek.
