Cognitive dissonance rules the land
I am in the advertising industry and most of the ads for sub-prime loans had dried up before the recent bail-out bill. As soon as that went through the volume for these ads went up 10 times. Whatever the government did to “fix” the problem ain’t working because all they did was just give everyone who didn’t make money the first time around another shot at the craps table.
What’s crazy is that this would be news to anyone, let alone someone holding Congressional office! And yet those effers voted this disgrace into law, and our spendthrift president backed their dumb asses up.
I really despair that I am surrounded by people who think politicians ever make things nice, or better, or happier than they would otherwise be. They just wreck shit, over and over again. No matter which way you vote, it is truly delusional ever to cast a vote with the thought that anything will be fixed as a result.

Governments are rubbish at doing things that require creation. They’re middling competent at doing evil things or destroying people and cities.
Nuke Hiroshima? No business could do it, but government can.
Exterminate six million Jews? No business could do it, but government can.
Built a cheap laptop with built in wi-fi, Skype, a dongle for less than a week’s wages? Or a Qik phone? No government can do it, but a business can.
The trick is to align competence: use the government only to do things that involve death and destruction, and keep it away from doing anything that doesn’t.
