Cover It Live integrates Qik

So now you can have a Qik video of exactly what you’re live blogging sitting right there within your live blogging tool. More details are here.

We met Keith McSpurren, CIL’s founder, only a few weeks ago at the Personal Democracy Forum in New York. CIL was the official live blogging tool of the conference, while lots of people (including the event organizers) were Qikking the sessions and presentations. We had a conversation with Keith there along the lines of, “Wouldn’t it be cool if people could have the Qik video of the event they’re live blogging right there inside Cover It Live? Yes it would. Let’s do it.” And it’s done already!

This speaks to a few key things:

1) Qik has been built out as a platform, not a destination site. We want people to distribute their videos how and where they want, not merely drive traffic to Qik.com. (We don’t have ads on the site, you’ll notice.)

2) As a platform, we want people to be able to build their own applications on top of our technology. The fact that Keith and his team have been able to do so with such speed is a trend we want to continue (and which you will hear more about very soon).

3) Qik’s team of developers just plain rocks. To have supported Keith’s team in this integration while also pushing out a number of truly incredible improvements to Qik over the past few weeks - including getting latency down to as little as half a second, launching a new player, and adding several major features - is really something. I’m proud every day to work with these guys, and I’m not too proud to say it in so many words. They’re the best.
