Do they have cheerleaders for this?
Although I grew up in the country, I come from a more urban, industrial neck of Ohio. So I still find certain things about the country sort of cute, such as the exciting news that my high school’s Future Farmers of America chapter (motto: “Doing to Learn [sic],
earning to live, living to serve”) has won (lumberjacked?) a place in the regional forestry invitational.
Students spent roughly 110 hours outside school practicing and preparing for the competition. The students compete in several areas including a written test, typography maps and tree and equipment identification. Students also participate in timber cruising where they use tools and techniques to determine how many 16-foot logs a tree can produce and board feet (144 cubic inches) for a tree or acreages of trees.
I was not a member of FFA, I hasten to add (though I was in Future Teachers of America and Future Homemakers of America, which is funny for lots of reasons).
