Excellent organic box scheme

While I am SO over the organic delusion that afflicts so many (please, keep your value judgements about my food to yourself - especially if you’re a politician whose wages I’m paying), I have to say that I am very happy with the organic fruit and veg we’ve got from Riverford.

This week, we had some really nice apples, pears, oranges, and Brussels sprouts (I didn’t think I liked those), as well as a mix of bean sprouts that even a certain someone was moved to proclaim “really good”. (Before, bean sprouts in the salad were something to be endured, now they are enjoyed. Hallelujah!) We got a lot more with our order (loads of potatoes, carrots, parsnips, mushrooms, kale) which I haven’t yet cooked, but for a ‘mini-box’ - which contains an awful lot of produce - plus fruit bag, sprouts, and milk, it cost under £15 including delivery. Also, the literature that comes with it was written by the farm’s owner, and he pulls no punches when discussing the business of organic food and trying to be environmentally sound, pointing out where seemingly ‘green’ methods are actually worse for the planet. We’ll stick with them.
