  1. The interesting thing I don’t see on there (probably not available in the records?) is the offense*.

I don’t care if someone got popped for indecent exposure for peeing behind a bar at 2AM. I do care if someone’s a rapist.

The problem with mandatory registries and the like is that as far as I’ve ever seen they don’t tell you the important thing, which is why they’re on the registry, specifically.

    * N/A for this example; I checked my zipcode and evidently my state does publish at least the name of the statute, if not the details of the offense and its date. That’s much better, though still not ideal.

I’d still like to know if Mr. “Sexual Assault” committed it on someone underage or older than me - especially if I had kids - and if he did it last year or twenty years ago.

A start, at least, and better than “So-and-so is a registered sex offender for a reason we can’t tell you, so good luck evaluating his potential threat level.”

  2. Sigivald, it’s showing me offenses for most of the records it pulls up.

  3. I have been getting notices from the Sheriff for about a year. I get one almost every day. However, only twice that I can remember, have I actually seen these men in person, on the street. One was at the playground with his daughter, and I talked with him for a while, wondering why he looked so familiar to me. Later I went back to my emails and saw his face as an offender against underage girls.
