Getting things done
I just set up our home wifi. I was reluctant even to try, because I’d read and heard about how very difficult it was. And I don’t deal well with not being able to do something.
But here it is, all connected. I only had one moment of real frustration, during which I called Michael Jennings and asked him if I was missing something. Over the phone, he was only able to put the problem in plain words: “Your Mac is talking to the router, but your ISP isn’t letting the router connect. It must be getting some incorrect information from your computer.” It sounds obvious, but the interface and mood of the installation materials of these things just immerse you in acronyms and numbers and dots, to the point where one can lose sight of the very basic underlying mission. Well, one can get muddled like that if one is me.
So I quickly realised that my own arrogance had probably led to this - and I was right. I had tried to enter the not uncomplicated ISP login from memory, and had got it wrong. Once corrected, everything was tip-top.
Really, it was not that difficult. It certainly took less time and effort than getting the Mac online last weekend (and that wasn’t bad, either). So I think that there really is no point in buying into the mindset of impossibility about anything anymore, because it is a stressor and it must keep us from doing so much. See this, too.
(Check back when I’m in labour with my first child and see if I still feel the same.)
