Giles Coren, performance artist?
It was amusing for a bit, but now I’m thinking we’ve all been had. The guy just CANNOT be this far up his own backside. Coren’s reaction to the Downfall parody of his irate email to Times sub-editors is brilliantly prickish:
I’m fluent in German, so watching it with subtitles is not quite as funny for me as for everybody else. There was a time when an Englishman could speak fluent French and German, but I suppose the YouTube generation spends its time doing this instead. It would be funny for me if it was in Russian.
Giles and I have four friends in common, but I’m terrified to ask them if he’s for real when he comes up with stuff like this. I prefer to believe he’s just spoofing himself at this point. Either way, he brings a welcome reminder not to take oneself too seriously (which I am sure I do several times daily).
