Gratitude and stupiditude

Amy and me

Here’s me and Amy Alkon yesterday (photo copyright Amy Alkon, who has more pictures), hanging out and watching fashion triumphs (and disasters) go by in Paris.
Speaking of disasters, my day almost was a complete one, thanks to my own stupidity. Long story, but ladies, if you tend to have more than one handbag on the go, make sure that when you jump in a taxi to catch a train to a foreign country, the bag you’re carrying actually contains useful things like money, or a cash card, or a credit card. My bag contained none of these things. Or, rather, the only cards I had were the ones whose PINs I can’t remember. Remembering your house keys is pretty important, too, especially when the person you live with is flying to the US that day.
Three people contributed to saving my ass yesterday: Antoine, as always, who left the key with a neighbour, called the salon in Paris to try to pay for my cut and colour (they couldn’t do it) and then to arrange for me to be able to sign for my credit card instead of use my PIN (they agreed, but it ended up being ‘impossible’ later), and dropped off a huge wad of cash at the taxi firm’s office to cover my fare AND the £50 my taxi driver gave me when he heard me panicking on the phone with Antoine. Thank you, Kilo-96, for trusting me! Thirdly, Miss Amy came up trumps when the salon couldn’t manage to let me sign for the 76 Euros I owed them; I gave them all my cash (50 Euros) and Amy paid the rest. She also bought me lunch (I hadn’t eaten since 6AM) and insisted on giving me 20 Euros for the journey home, so I could buy water and a snack.
There was a time when I hated accepting help from anyone, and while I still felt like a dumbass for needing it, I was (and am) unbelievably grateful to these three for bailing me out. Thank you all so much!
