I don’t believe in goodbyes

My friend Mary did something awesome, taking today off so we could spend my last day in Cincy together. We had an exceedingly lovely day, which began with cake loaded with buttercream roses, eaten with a truly inspirational group of people. Things could have easily gone downhill from there, but we hit Via Vite on Fountain Square for lunch, sitting up on the terrace in the sunshine.

[Aside: Via Vite is the best value for money lunch deal downtown. You can eat a VERY generous portion of the most wonderful, spicy seafood stew or beautiful, slightly sweet yellow pepper soup for $5. Try getting out of Potbelly or Subway for that little. (We were both full on stew by the time our main courses - goats cheese and preserved figs with spring leaves - came.)]

How on earth could I leave town without a trip to Graeter’s? After working up an appetite with some errand running, Mary and I hit the Fountain Square location at 4PM. The sad thing is, I could have easily eaten another bowl of mint chocolate chip only a couple of hours later.

After some time spent this evening by the pool, 5chw4r7z and Ms. 5chw4r7z kept me company until I had to come home and procrastinate on packing.

All in all, a nice way to end my stint in Cincinnati. It feels wrong to say goodbye, since I plan to keep in touch with my friends as much as I do now. Sure, they won’t have me breathing down their necks to do stuff all the time, but I’ll still be around in my own, ever-present online way. I also expect I’ll be back at some point this summer to sort out my apartment (the lease isn’t up until August - email me if you’re interested in taking it over!).

At the very least, I’ve promised to come back for Riverfest over Labor Day weekend, as one of my favorite people here has a new place with a killer view of downtown and the river. Plus, these mofos better be getting on planes to visit me as often as possible.

In (not so) short: Like a hellacious head cold, you don’t get rid of me that easily, guys. TTFN…

  1. I envision you pulling an enormous umbrella out of your bag, and letting the wind carry you off, Mary Poppins style, to the next city that needs your help.
