I was pleased to be back in Britain. Then I read this.

How many new criminal offenses has Tony Blair’s government created since coming to power? Not 30, not 300…try 3000+. Even potatoes can land you in the slammer now. And here we all are, with three major political parties, none of which is much interested in rolling back the ever-encroaching role of the state in individuals’ lives.

  1. I was chatting with an Irish guy in the office about this post and he got quite upset. He kinda missed the point of increasing quantitites of legislation intruding into our lives and went off the deep end about the very serious threat from Polish spuds.

Apparently, and I havn’t checked it out, Ring Rot (a serious disease affecting spuds) is very prevelent in Polish spuds and the same disease had some contribution to the Irsih Potatoe famine that killed many.

He said it could kill all potatoe crops for a season. Seems absurd to me, but if my chip butty is under threat, then you can ban Polish beetroot as well ;-)
