I’m going to LA for the Oscars

Okay, so I’m going to be watching them on TV at Cathy Seipp’s house, but still! (LA Times opinion editor Matt Welch and Emmanuelle Richard, who will be covering the Oscars for French TV on Sunday, have been kind enough to open up their guest room to me for my visit. I don’t think poor Emmanuelle realises how doggedly I will be trying to extract red carpet anecdotes which will cast celebrities in as horrific a light possible from her come Monday morning.)

After LA, I’m going to New York for a few days, where I will have lunch with Franziska (who I haven’t seen for a couple of years, even though she lives not too far from me here), do some work, go to various appointments, and try not to shop too much. I’m staying at the Crowne Plaza United Nations, so hope the rot next door doesn’t stink up my room too badly.

So if I’m not around much next week, that’s why.

    You should be: I’m going to cook some good food up for Cathy for our little Oscars-viewing party. I don’t think we’ll be wearing formal dress, though.
