In America
While being in the US does make me appreciate all of the things about London that I ignore on a daily basis, I could almost kiss the ground, I’m so happy to be back in this country.
I don’t know what it is, exactly. Someone asked me the other day how long I’ve been in the UK, and I realised that it’s been nearly a third of my whole life - and all of my adult life (such as it is). So I think that part of the comfort in being back here is that it’s kind of like revisiting childhood, or a time before I was even pretending to be responsible. Then there’s the fact of how much cheaper everything is (even in San Francisco), the abundance of air conditioning, all the wonderful SPACE and ROOM, and the relief of returning to a truly civil society.
What is very sad for me is being here without Antoine. For that reason alone, I can’t wait to get back to the UK. While I’m here, though, I’m going to soak up as much USA as I can. (Here’s hoping my clothes still fit when I leave.)

I think I know exactly what you mean. I’ve only been in the US for the last couple of years and the UK my whole life before that, but returning to America I’m all THANK G-D!! Civilisation. WHEW.
Having said that, it’s been so hot in Texas I’ve been watching BBC America just to drool over the miserable weather scenes. People in sweaters! Jealous. Ha.
Hey, I was actually feeling COLD today in San Francisco! The weather here has been ideal - sunny and bright, but not too hot for long sleeves or even (gasp!) a jacket. I’ve been loving London’s recent cold snap, but this is even better.
