Let me count the ways…

It’s coming along - still unpacking

After all the whinging I’ve done the past week about the constant presence of construction workers and the accompanying mess, about the bird flying around my apartment, and about all the other hassles of moving into a place that isn’t quite finished yet, I have to say…I absolutely love my new home. The best bits:

* The location - despite the noise after bar closings on a weekend, this side of town (west end of Piatt Park) is leafy, usually quiet, close to all of downtown’s amenities, and just so very pleasant.

* The fact that all of the toilets, the bathtub, the (marble) shower, the sinks, the dishwasher, the fridge, the oven, the kitchen, and everything else is all brand new has made me very happy. Just knowing that no one else’s filth has touched this stuff makes my heart sing. (I confessed this to my father, who said he had the same gladness when he and my stepmother built their house a few years ago.)

* Today in one of the bathrooms, I stumbled across a big closet, complete with hooks and a railing for hangers, that I hadn’t even known about. I must be old, because this discovery gave me goosebumps.

* My neighbors are really cool! Not only do I have the 5chw4r7z35 across the street, but the guy next door and his boyfriend brought me a bottle of wine today and we discovered our mutual friends in town. (I hope they don’t mind seeing that bottle put out for guests when I have a housewarming thing.)

This place just has a great feeling to it. Good thing, since after the experiences of the past week, I’ve decided that I am NEVER MOVING AGAIN.
