La Tartine: My second home
My first home is Qik HQ (by choice), and I may just spend more time in La Tartine than I do in the house where I sleep. They’ve just nailed everything, including but not limited to the coffee (brewed by the cup!); the pastries; the meals; the free wifi; the ample power outlets; the comfy leather chairs; the outdoor seating with shade; the indoor waterfall, and the friendly staff. (One of the workers in Pamplemousse, La Tartine’s competition two streets over, snarled at me last week for taking a picture of the macarons. Why? Because “someone could see the picture and steal our ideas”. Yeah, because anyone who wants to “steal” your “ideas” - for macarons, which have existed for CENTURIES - wouldn’t be willing to pay the $2 you charge for the damn things and then “steal” your “ideas”. Don’t get me started on this stupid “intellectual property” crap that some of these people have also imported from the French.)
Anyway! La Tartine is lovely and I happily give them my money almost every day. Just another reason why I am totally besotted with downtown Redwood City.
