Landed in LA

I was on what is definitely the newest airplane I’ve ever stepped foot in - imagine a new car smell in an aircraft, with lots of shiny chrome fittings and handles everywhere. (It was a Virgin Atlantic flight.)

The entertainment system on Virgin’s better planes (I’ve been on some which didn’t have it) is excellent. I watched the entire second series of Extras (satisfyingly black - the David Bowie episode was the best), one episode of the American version of The Office (as Blaine Edwards and Antoine Merriwether would say, HATED IT!), a bunch of other TV, and one film - Babel, which was nerve-wracking and wonderful. I was sad when it ended. I don’t recommend watching it when you’re flying 8000 miles away from the one you love, though.

When I got to LAX, I didn’t do the usual cab thing, because 1) the line was loooooong, and 2) Emmanuelle told me that I could get a bus to Union Station for $3, then a cab to her and Matt’s house from there for only $20 or so (it was less) - which beats a $70 taxi. What Emmanuelle DIDN’T mention is that Union Station is an absolutely stunning work of art. Inside and out, it’s breathtaking. Even the seating is gorgeous. I’ll go back and take more time checking out (and photographing) the scenery. I wish I could bring Brian here. Brian, you must come.

Now is the time on Sprockets when we crash.
