“Live, from the blogosphere, it’s Death!”
That was reportedly the title the LA Times did not go with for Sandra Tsing Loh’s piece about how the blogosphere reacted to Cathy Seipp’s last days and eventual death.
I feel I should point out here that, a couple of days ago, I removed all links to the site that was hosting the surreptitiously recorded audio of Cathy’s funeral. For some reason, I thought that the person who had recorded it (someone Cathy considered a friend and did much to help, against the advice of many people, over the years) had done so with the family’s blessing. That not being the case, I cut all links to his site.
I’d also like to point out that the friend who brought me to know Cathy and Maia in the first place, Jim Treacher, also suffered the same sort of cybersquatting character assassination that Cathy did. (The only difference is, well, Jim lived to suffer the full consequences.) In that particular online vendetta, another person lost her livelihood as a result of similarly disgusting behavior instigated by an immature, nasty blogger.
Anyway, today’s Jim’s fifth anniversary of blogging, and I owe him more than I can put into words. Keep it up, bub!
