Making the “glamour” bearable

China Business Network at Hong Kong Flower Lounge

One of my colleagues from the web development side of Qik said to me today, “It seems so glamorous to work in the marketing team.” Yep, so glamorous it’s killing me.

The truth is that my job is a blast, but not because of big events. If anything, those parties are the hardest part. Quite apart from trying to put your best foot forward, it can be a lot of work to discern who’s genuine and who’s on the make (and who’s genuinely on the make). I feel a lot more excited going into any event where I know there will be at least one what-you-see-is-what-you-get person.

Tonight I lucked out: China Business Network founder Christine Lu (who is pretty amazing herself) invited Mr. Google Open Social Kevin Marks along to her Silicon Dragon dinner at the Hong Kong Flower Lounge. Seeing certain people in a crowd just cheers me up and helps me relax at the same time, and Kevin is one of them. Well planned, Christine!
