Making the most of my motivation by doing stuff I’d normally need a PA to do

Today I:

opened a bank account (Fifth Third, because they looked like the best out of all local banks; anyone who knows better can let me know!)
got a new mobile (Blackberry Pearl, because it’s only $20/month for unlimited web and email usage)
arranged to activate my wifi (Cincinnati Bell’s ZoomTown, bundled with the landline for $40/month for the first six months, and still cheap after that - plus, no contracts!)
set up my landline
got a library card (the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County has a surprisingly advanced web setup, where you can log into your account and renew books, edit your personal information, change your PIN, reserve books, and more).

The biggest hassle by far was the mobile phone, because T-Mobile seems to have a fairly convoluted system for activating numbers and authorizing credit card purchases. (When I tried to use my British cash card - which works in most shops here - the computer wouldn’t let it go through, spitting out a message that someone had supposedly made a duplicate purchase of the same item and contract within the past 24 hours.) Everything else took less than five minutes, and everyone was terribly helpful and friendly (without being irritating about it). I could get used to this place.

  1. Welcome to Cincinnati! I ran across your name on Cathy Seipp’s blog, which I read often, and you are new in town here. This is a pretty decent city for the Midwest, lots of good dining and art, plus good walking zones. Summers can be really hot and humid, but the autumns are excellent. http://www.cincioutdoors.com is a great outdoors/hiking group, as is http://www.tristatehiking.com

  2. Been to Graeter’s yet? Yum.
