Maxroam and Twitterfone FTW!

I have a really nice problem these days: So much good stuff is happening for me and my friends that I am having to hold back on sharing too much upbeat news. But I have to tell you that few things make me as happy as seeing people I love and admire do really cool things. The bonus is that we all get to call this “work”.

Today I’m particularly happy to see my friends Pat Phelan and Florian Seroussi announce a couple of major things. First, v2 of their Twitterfone service, which took the Twitterverse by storm upon its launch a couple of months ago. As ever, Mike Arrington at TechCrunch has the scoop:

Today Twitterfone will start converting your Twitter messages to audio, too, giving users a full audio interface to the service. As of today, when you call Twitterfone the service offers to let you record a new message, listen to messages from your friends, and reply to messages publicly or privately.

That’s not all the good news the boys have for us. Something else that’s been in the works for a while is now here, and I cannot be more excited to blog about it. Maxroam, the global roaming SIM card which lets you take and make calls around the world without the confiscatory charges levied by cell providers, now offers voice and data. (That’s Florian on the video, sounding very tired - he told me he was up all night getting everything ready with his team.) This means that you can also browse the web and, for example, stream videos live from Qik without being punished with huge data roaming prices. The impact this will have on global communications cannot be overstated.

I know firsthand how much hard work Pat and Florian have put into Maxroam, Twitterfone, and everything else they do (believe it or not, there’s even more cool stuff happening!). So it’s really a joy for me to see them announce these innovations, and to congratulate them on a job well done. I can’t wait to celebrate with them in person in a couple of weeks!

  1. Can i say how much I love you on a blog?
Anyway thanks for the post. It’s a team work. 25/8 as a friend would say :)

  2. 25/8 indeed - the only schedule that all-or-nothing types like us can stick to, eh?
