Meme for movie industry scum
Dammit, Nancy (and our pal, the non-scum Anne Thompson, Deputy Film Editor of the Hollywood Reporter) made me do it, even though my work in the film industry has been ridiculously limited. (I’m not even on IMDB.)
ONE (1) earliest film-related memory: A very dark sea, stormy with lightning; ever so slowly, a tiny row boat becomes visible. Popeye (Robin Williams) is in it. I know Robert Altman’s live action version of Popeye was universally panned by critics, but I loved it, especially those opening scenes, which made me want to row my own boat out to the middle of a very dark and stormy sea, risking death. It is my first memory of gratifying fear. (I had a real thing for Popeye; I begged my mother to buy me Popeye brand spinach - which I ate happily - and had a Popeye t-shirt that I refused to take off even for bath time. Yes, even at age three, I was a maniac.)
TWO (2) favorite lines from movies: “Ever heard of a ritual killing?”; “Yeah, right. I’m a Klansman.” (These aren’t my two favourite move lines ever, but two that are good for me tonight.)
THREE (3) jobs you’d do if you could not work in the “biz”: Mother; small biz coach; personal chef to a very rich, laidback family.
FOUR (4) jobs you actually have held outside the industry: head of marketing for a search engine marketing company; blog consultant; child minder (which I started stupidly young - like, eight or nine); freelance writer
THREE (3) book authors I like: Daniel Clowes, William Sutcliffe, JD Salinger
TWO (2) movies you’d like to remake or properties you’d like to adapt: Atlas Shrugged, Simple Abundance (yes, I know it’s non-fiction, but I can envision a really neat interpretation of it for the big screen)
ONE (1) screenwriter you think is underrated: Despite his many awards, this friend of mine can never be highly rated enough for me.
I’m only tagging one person for this: Jim Treacher.
