More on my mugging last night

I just had a phone call from the very pleasant detective sergeant Gavin Burton from Kentish Town Police, who is handling the investigation of my mugging. He told me that these muggings have been happening all the time lately, usually on weekends (mine was on a Friday night, which I guess qualifies). All of the victims have been women. They recently found the belongings of three of the victims, in Paddington, and believe that the thieves just want cash and mobile phones, not the bags or anything else. (They got my camera, but not any of the stuff they’d need to upload photos or charge the battery, so I’m very hopeful they’ll get next to nothing for it. They also got the smaller 512MB SD card I’d put in it to grab photos from my friend’s wedding last weekend, not the usual 2GB one I use, which is something I’m very glad about. I’ll take what I can get right now; that camera was like an extension of me, I used it practically every day, and I’m really annoyed at having something of such sentimental value ripped off of me because some dickheads think that robbing women is an acceptable way to earn a living.)

If you have any information about similar crimes in North London, or about the motor scooter with the registration number beginning with V162, please call Kentish Town Police on 0208 733 6092 regarding unit crime reference number 2304216/07 (Gavin Burton is the detective sergeant who’s in charge of this one, but if he’s not there, another detective can take information from you).

The problem with the vehicle registration is that a lot of these bikes are stolen (of course), and are passed from shady character to shady character with some frequency. So it may be difficult, even after running the details through the registration database, to tie the bike to the right person. Still, I’m glad they’re trying.

I was sort of hopeful that these two scumbags would show up here at our house last night, since they also stole my house keys (though I don’t think I had anything with my address on it in my bag, you never know). Alas, alas, I did not get the chance to smash their kneecaps with cans of Spaghetti Hoops. The locks have now been changed, though, and I may not have to take a Valium to get to sleep again tonight.

  1. Aw Jackie, I can’t believe the run of bad luck you’ve been having with this sort of thing. So glad you weren’t hurt, or more badly shaken up. Take care of yourself, and have a really indulgent couple of days, if that helps in any way, xxx C

  2. Ugh.

I’m really sorry to hear about this. Again…
