Moving

I picked up the keys to my new place today. There is dust and debris everywhere in the apartment, the fridge is in the middle of the living room floor, and I am assured that it will be completely finished and spic and span by tomorrow.

Very nearby is a little Moroccan cafĂ© where some friends and I go for dinner pretty regularly. It’s owned by a lovely couple (the husband started the local mosque in Over-the-Rhine) and it was a real pleasure to tell them that I am their new neighbor. They can probably bank on me stopping by for daily tabbouleh and hummus (best in the city), so I’m sure their delight was genuine when I said I was moving in. (They were doing some moving themselves, bringing in new chairs from Mejana, the downtown Lebanese restaurant next to the Terrace Hotel which is - according to signs in the restaurant’s window - moving. Anyone know where they’re moving to? Offloading furniture doesn’t make me optimistic that they’ll re-open. The food there was average, the service less than competent, but the people were very friendly.)

Okay, back to packing.

  1. I read that Mejana is moving to Newport/Covington because the Ohio smoking law and their Hooka pipe conflicted.

So we can be expecting an invite for cocktails in the new apartment when? ;-D

  2. Ah, makes sense. My brother asked me how the outdoor hookah pipes weren’t getting them busted. Stupid, stupid public.

I think I’ll have people over when I get back from London, whenever that is…Need to get settled in and save up if I’m going to get the likes of you liquored up!

  3. I heard from one of the owner’s children that they are moving due to a dispute with their landlords (whatever hotel that is) and that they are planning to open up a stand in/near Tri-County Mall. He said they wanted to stay downtown and were still getting pretty good business.
