My must-haves

I’ve been tagged by Antony Mayfield to give my five must-have blogging tools; let’s see if I can answer him before my laptop battery runs out…

1) Reading: Like Antony, I use a combination of Firefox and Bloglines (read RSS feeds on Bloglines.com, open any interesting links in new Firefox browser tabs) to catch up on web-based reading. I love the clean, simple look of Bloglines; I previously used Newsgator, which I found very dark and unappealing.

2) Hunting: I use Technorati sometimes, but not often, and almost always follow it with a check of Bloglines Citations to fill in (m)any of the gaps Technorati leaves.

3) Writing: I contribute or edit so many blogs, all with varying degrees of frequency, that I currently use the following blogging software packages: WordPress (two different versions), Expression Engine (ditto), Typepad (annoying), Movable Type (feh), and now the really quite fun Vox.

I wouldn’t call Technorati and Bloglines Citations ‘must-haves’; really, I’m mostly interested in reading and writing. If we’re also talking photoblogging - which I am enjoying very much - then Flickr needs to be mentioned. I’m currently experimenting with videoblogging, and have heard such great things about Blip.tv from a trusted source that I think I’ll give it a go.

Apologies for the rushed and somewhat incomplete nature of this post, but I suppose the good news for me is that my ‘must-haves’ list is rather shorter than others peoples’ seem to be.
