“Nothing gained in writers’ strike”

Terry Heaton:
The strike is about to end, and Hollywood is preparing to get back to normal. The problem, of course, is that “normal” is the problem, and all the smiles and “atta-boys” in the world won’t change that.

I’m sure they will write a much better ending for the Hollywood film about the strike :-)
I had an interesting conversation with a friend who works at Warner Bros. last night - she reckons that the main consequence of the deal will be that the studios will resolutely stick to making the dumb superhero blockbuster-style films from now on, and a lot of the less mainstream films that they’ve gambled on in the past few years (Blood Diamond, Syriana, etc etc) won’t get made. They won’t want to gamble on films that might not make the cash if they’ve got to factor in extra money for the writers, and the writers may find themselves with fewer work opportunities as a result.
