Oasis: Thanks for the memories
It’s not really Oasis without Noel, and the whole fighting Gallagher brothers thing got old about 14 years ago. One of the greatest nights of my life was when I drove six hours to Detroit as a teenager to see this band, and it was easily the best live concert I’ve ever seen. (I don’t think my dad even bothered to try to stop me from going. By that time, he’d put up with me playing my Definitely, Maybe and What’s the Story, Morning Glory? CDs nonstop for several months, so I think he was just relieved that I was driving to another state to listen to them for once.)
To me, Liam was an amusing, occasionally wonderful, disposable element of the band - Noel was the real heart and soul. Oasis=Noel. I can’t wait for his solo debut.
I sort of wish Oasis had stopped after their second album. That said, some of their later songs are amongst my favorites. This one especially:
To give Liam his props, Songbird is a beautiful record. I’m sure Noel had a large hand in polishing the song Liam wrote and making the overall sound so perfect (LOVE the piano and wind). But it’s Liam’s piece and I love it:
I made a lot of good friends thanks to Oasis, some of whom I am still close to today (long, geeky story). So thanks, Oasis. Now please grow up and get on with making more great music.

We were listening to a lot of the What’s the Story album in the car yesterday and it was great. I agree with you though: 1) Noel is the legend (lovely voice), and 2) Songbird is a fantastic song.
Yeah, I think Noel may be my favorite male singer ever. It’s strange how different his and Liam’s voices are.
