On Google

Googleplex before dark

Google is not, by a long stretch, my favourite company. I have quite a few negative things to say about them. But would I drink their booze and hang out in their ice cream lab tonight? No question: Of course I would.

When we met a Google AdWords employee tonight, so wide-eyed and toothy-grinned and “Google is the least corporate company ever!”, I turned to my friends and said, “Okay, she’s one of three things: A Scientologist, a Jehovah’s Witness, or a Google employee.” What I’m saying is: I know Google sucks.

But also…Man, Google rocks. What Larry and Sergey have built in such a short amount of time is nothing but stunning. Standing in the middle of just one small percentage of their empire, you think about all the things you could do if you had no concept of the possibility of failure. What we humans can accomplish is nothing short of spectacular.

If only we’d believe that, daily. Spend a little time at the Googleplex, and you might just turn into a wide-eyed, toothy-grinned convert yourself.

  1. I don’t know…the googleplex actually sounds kind of scary if you ask me.
