Our thinking problem
Some friends told me about this very direct, funny monologue that Craig Ferguson gave about his alcoholism earlier this year. Around the three minute mark is when he gets going specifically on that. It’s moving.
I gave a similar - but much less amusing - talk last night, at a gay/lesbian/transgender meeting, and can vouch for the rewards of doing such a thing. “It’s been years since I heard someone talk and felt as if I was hearing them tell my story,” one woman told me. “When you started talking, I really felt like you were talking about me. You were telling my story.” It reminded me of the time that Antoine went with me to an open meeting in London and told me afterwards, “I can’t believe how much of you I saw in every person in there. Everything they said was so you.”
I have heard it said that our stories are all the same - only the details differ. Hearing Craig Ferguson speak, I am sure of it.
