Dr. Jan Carnogursky, former PM of Slovak Republic

Dr Jan Carnogursky was prime minister when Antoine worked in the PM’s office in 1991 as a political and economic adviser. They met up while we were in Bratislava in 2005 (I stayed away, knowing I’d have nothing much to add), and Antoine took this photo in Jan’s current office, between two very significant photographs.

Jan was a dissident lawyer during the Communist regime, and was imprisoned several times for his efforts against the commies. He also led the underground church movement and secret study groups in law, philosophy, and other subjects. He is a hero in my eyes.
