Question for the weekend

Feel free just to answer in your own head:

What do you do to feel more alive? Does this activity ever hurt rather than help? Is it something you would recommend to others? (If so, please share!)

This is a question I’ve been discovering my own answers to a lot lately. Almost everything I’ve ever done to feel more alive was actually destroying me. Almost everything. The main, glaring exception to this is connecting with and helping other people, which brings me most of my joy. Other exceptions: travel and art (of all kinds).

Remember this song from the 1990s? I forgot about this Belgian band until YouTube reminded me:

  1. I spend too much time online sometimes, which is at least sort of destructive when you get carried away with it. Good things that I do include having people over once in a while and even getting out of the house sometimes. My very favorite thing is probably hiking–turned out OC has lots of trails. We find more every couple of months.

  2. I feel more alive when I can help those who have little to look forward to because they are worrying where their next meal will come from, where they are going to sleep, how can they get whatever it is they need for their particular addiction just to escape the reality that is their life. When I can give them hope, , give them options, let them know that someone cares, give them a hug, listen to them and treat them like a real person.
