quote of the day
I think we are diamond hearts, wrapped in meatballs. I would call my path Diamond Meatball: people would comfort and uplift one another by saying, “I know there’s a diamond in there somewhere.”
-Anne Lamott, Plan B
It’s a nice thought, and one we can put into action with many people. But there is also a point with some others where we have to abandon hopes of warm fuzzies in order to save ourselves, our sanity (as it were), our sobriety (ditto; it’s not just addicts who need sober thinking and actions), and our ability to spend time and effort on those who, to use an Anglicism, won’t take the piss. I struggle every day to find that blurry line and stay on the right side of it, no doubt often getting it wrong along the way. But I think it’s better to try, to keep high serenity and low expectations (copyright: a bunch of people in AA). If I am wrong, the rewards of this error are mighty high.
