Sanrio, Alec Baldwin, and damaged little girls

I’m a big Sanrio fan in general, and Hello Kitty is a favorite of mine (though I also have a soft spot for Chococat and Keroppi, while Badzt-Maru and I share the same goal in life), but this is getting ridiculous.

I read once that women who are big Sanrio fans usually had at least one really bad parent who screwed them up in childhood. Makes sense to me! After listening to the poisonously abusive voicemail he left for her, I think Alec Baldwin’s daughter is going to be joining our little club in about ten years. I wonder if this guy can hear himself. He has such utter contempt for his 11-year-old daughter, and sees nothing wrong with it. In fact, he thinks it’s justified, but says he wishes he’d chosen different words to express it. Yeah, I guess “thoughtless little pig” hurled at his child doesn’t do much for his cultivated image as a ‘progressive,’ bleeding-heart liberal whose soul is brimming with compassion for his fellow man.

People who talk to their kids like that deserve to have them taken away and raised by other family members or competent family friends, just as sure as if they’d beaten them (which most of them probably do, too). Actually, that’s what their children deserve, especially if another parent is letting the abuse happen.

  1. My heart went out to that poor little kid. No kid deserves to be spoken to like that.

Unfortunately, it only reinforces my original opinion of Mr. Baldwin.

And after listening to himself, does he really have to wonder why she may have been elsewhere when he was due to call?

  2. I turned my car radio to a station playing this on the drive to work this morning and assumed it was just another a-hole low class local parent being exposed - and then I found out that it was an a-hole low class (LA? NYC? don’t care enough to google him) parent. Kiss that image and some future work good bye, dillweed.

  3. We’re going through the same thing with James McGreevey here in NJ and his ex-wife and daughter …he’s being a jack*ss and just seems to be so unbelievably tone-deaf to the godawful image he’s presenting. Both of them seem to be preternaturally disposed to destroy any possible post-divorce career success they might have coming.

Allthough, truth be told, at least Baldwin is quite good at *his* chosen profession, IMO/YMMV. McGreasy? Not so much.

  4. Alec Baldwin is a brilliant actor, but this incident exposes him for what he also is: an arrogant, abusive jerk who thinks he’s better than everyone else and doesn’t give a damn about anyone else’s feelings, including his own child.

I used to think that the South Park guys were over the top when they made Alec Baldwin the co-villain (along with Kim Jong Il) of “Team America: Word Police.” Now I see that they just knew him better than I did.

  5. Uhmmmm…. this gets my vote for what should be Ireland Baldwin’s response… “DITCHMAIL” …nice and simple. The Voicemail Solution for Alec Baldwin’s Daughter
