Sir Ian Blair

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair is either completely out of touch with reality or a shameless liar. Maybe he’s been mesmerized by one too many government propaganda tickers.

People are opening their doors, leaving their doors open now, or leaving them unlocked, certainly, in a way they haven’t done for 25 years.

Guido has some evidence to the contrary, and I cannot imagine that I know a soul living in this city who would find anything remotely credible in Blair’s words. We live in a pretty nice neighbourhood, and Antoine has been mugged outside our own front door (by a guy with a gun), burgled, and in recent months we’ve had to call the police after someone climbled the wall into our back garden (the same night that someone was shooting a pellet gun at our upstairs windows).

Leaving doors unlocked? Yeah, maybe in a world where Jean Charles de Menezes was shot in the head and killed by Blair’s officers because he was a terrorist. Or in a world where Mohammed Abdul Kahar was shot by Blair’s officers for a very good reason. Sadly, we live in a world where both were complete bungles and officers in both cases have been cleared of all wrongdoing.

One Response to “Sir Ian Blair”

  1. […] I’m about as contemptuous as it is possible to be with regard to the police’s repeated bungling (and that term is not nearly harsh enough) of ‘terror’ raids, but to agree to ask permission from Muslim ‘community leaders’ is wrong on about a million levels - not least of which is that these ‘community leaders’ are largely self-appointed, and don’t so much lead as bleat. What on earth does Metropolitan police commissioner Sir Ian Blair think he is doing? I mean, I know the man is out of touch with reality, since he thinks people in London feel safer than ever and are leaving our doors open and unlocked, but this really beggars belief.
