Social Media Club London
Tonight was the conversation to get the Social Media Club going in London, which took place at the Covent Garden offices of Fleishman Hillard. Pictures are here.
We had a great turn-out and a genuinely interesting dialogue, with strong viewpoints coming from all corners. (My prediction that every time a conversation is held about social media in London, at least one person will want to get stuck on how there is nothing new about social media, held out as expected. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with going down that route, but it’s a distinctly London thread, and one I have encountered only once in Silicon Valley.) I was particularly impressed with the contributions from Antony Mayfield (unsurprisingly), Fleishman Hillard’s Ben Mason (surprisingly - I told him I’d never heard a PR guy say so many smart things about social media, but Antony actually joins him in that honour), a Yahoo engineer turned student called Mo Syed, my Antoine, and a guy called Jed (I believe) whose last name I didn’t catch.
Afterwards, everyone headed to the Long Acre for drinks, but it was so loud and smoky that I had to get out of there almost as soon as we’d walked in. Also, Antoine and I haven’t spent much time alone since I got back from LA, and we really needed a quiet night together, so we headed to dinner at Hidden Treasure. As it’s nearly midnight and Social Media Club’s Chris Heuer, who has also been our houseguest this week, is still out carousing with everyone, I take it that the more social part of the evening has been a big hit as well. (Don’t worry, Kristie - he’s in good hands and has a house key!)

No worries on my part. Chris is a big boy and pretty good about fending for himself - though I never want him to think he could get by without me per say. :()
P.S. Ged’s last name is Carroll and his blog is http://renaissancechambara.blogspot.com/.
Good to meet you Jackie, I had to shoot off as I had other commitments but hope to say hello at th next meeting.
