Soho to Chelsea to too much wine

Yesterday, I went to the NMA Effectiveness Awards Masterclass at the Soho Hotel, and then to the Samizdata Summer 2006 Party (not an official name, btw) at Samizdata HQ in Chelsea. Late last night, I arrived home with a wine headache. The bits in between were great, though. Photos from the NMA event are here, and Samizdata party photos are here.

I used to drink quite a lot when I was 23 and 24, then cut back quite dramatically over the last few years. In the past I used to be able to drink alco-pops, but stopped about three years ago. And I recently cut out lager and cider altogether, deciding that I was too old for that kind of thing. But now that I do not drink very often (maybe once a month), I find myself getting headaches after only a few…bottles…of wine. Is it time for me to get really elderly and convert to G&Ts?

  1. Gin & tonics are a much better choice, in tall glasses, with lots of ice. Two is almost always plenty, and no hangover at all.

  2. I’ve had G&Ts before, but thought that the gin made me maudlin instead of relaxed. I’ll have to try them again, especially since gin is much less nutritionally damaging than even wine.

  3. I’m very boring. A glass of cold chardonnay, and just occasionally at that. Diet soda, now that’s a weakness. Not much good for relaxation purposes, though!

  4. The secret is to only drink really, really, really(!) good wine.
