Some girls do have ‘em

It’s a shame that Kylie Minogue had to get cancer to see what kind of man she’s got, but - if my experience is anything to go on - the signs are usually there anyway:

[Olivier] is the most honourable man I have ever met. He’s surprising. On particularly dark days I’d be lying on the bathroom floor wailing and he’d say, ‘OK, honey, you can cry for just five minutes, then I’m taking you on a bike ride around Paris.’ So I’d howl a bit more then I’d find myself thinking, ‘Hmm. Actually, a ride on the bike sounds pretty good’.

Olli was there all the time, helping with practical stuff and being protective. He didn’t hesitate in cancelling work and putting projects on hold so he could be with me. He has a depth of character, humour, and, well, he’s an old soul. While I look at the whole Dulux colour chart of emotions, he has the ability to see things in black and white. I don’t like to say too much in public about Olivier as he’s a very private person, but I will say that he was incredible.

  1. Yes, all very nice, but I would expect this from my partner anyway! What kind of person do you have to be not to help, not to be there, not to take care of things when your loved one is ill?!

  2. I think some people with the very best of intentions just do not know how to cope in such circumstances. For example, indulging Kylie and letting her wail on the bathroom floor for hours is something a caring and loving partner could have done without intending to harm. I have to say, I tend to veer too far to the practical side in similar situations - when Antoine is sick, my caretaking is combined with perhaps too much analysis of how he got sick, and somewhat obsessive attempts to make him free from illness and discomfort forever. Feeling helpless makes people do crazy things.

  3. You are absolutely right Jackie, some people don’t know how to cope with situations like this. I guess I didn’t think of that because I am a very lucky person as John does cope quite well with me when I am ill. I though tend to pamper him for a day or so and then tell him to get over it as he only has a cold and nothing life threatening! ;-)

  4. […] February 3rd, 2007 I’m stunned by news that Kylie and Olivier broke up. Posted in poppy | […]
