Speed Shrinking by Susan Shapiro - contest!
Susan Shapiro, critically acclaimed memoirist and one of the most respected media personalities I’ve ever met, has just published her fiction debut, Speed Shrinking. It’s a funny, smart, fast-paced read. Surprise bonus: One of the (hysterical, I must say) characters is based on me.
Here’s the contest, with three ways to win:
1) The first person to buy Sue’s book and figure out which character is based on me gets a $25 Amazon gift card. If the winner is from outside the US, I’ll buy them an Amazon gift card for their own country’s store in an equivalent amount.
2) Buy Sue’s book between now and September 6, forward me your Amazon receipt (or other proof of purchase), and I’ll pick one entry at random to receive a $25 Amazon gift card. If the winner is from outside the US, I’ll buy them an Amazon gift card for their own country’s store in an equivalent amount.
3) Buy Sue’s book between now and September 6, forward me your Amazon receipt (or other proof of purchase), and I’ll pick one entry at random to receive a brand new, signed-just-for-you copy of Sue’s book. (You can lend the un-signed one you bought to your friends without worrying about getting it back.)
To send me guesses and receipts, use the email address dynamist at gmail dot com.
Sue is doing a lot of book signings, readings, and other events around the country to support this book, so check out her events page to see when she’ll be in your town.

I have bought the book from UK Amazon. If you let me know your e-mail I can send you the receipt.
Please don’t worry about putting me into draw 2. I am sure that living in the UK a $25 gift card would cause a lot of problems.
I am looking forward to working out who is you. (or maybe I am too late already!)
Cheers
Daniel
Daniel, thanks! I put my email address in the post, but will send you a message so you have it.

How funny that you should mention this author, Jackie! I’ve just started reading ‘Only as Good as Your Word’ this morning, the only book of hers that I’ve ever come across. For me, reading books about writing always means that I’m thinking about doing some writing myself - I find it inspiring to read the thoughts of other, ‘proper’ writers. I’m really enjoying this one so far.
