The Duke of Hamilton, Hampstead
Occasionally I surprise myself with how little online curiosities still have the power to, well, surprise and delight me. Finding that our favourite local pub has its own Wikipedia page did both. It is badly in need of editing, but I won’t be doing that, as it requires a precision that I cannot be bothered to try to attain. That’s much more Antoine’s thing, and as he has already edited a few (including his grandfather’s Wikipedia page), I nominate him to sort out The Duke’s.
(We were in The Duke last night, and I have one tip from that experience that I’d like to share: When you ask for a white wine spritzer, don’t assume that the glass contains equal parts white wine and sparkling water. In The Duke, they just give you a huge glass of white wine and add a bit of the fizzy stuff for bubble appeal. It took me five spritzers to figure this out.)

I know this isn’t a pub site, Jackie, but thanks for the tip - I thought I knew Hampstead’s drinking holes, and now I discover that the one I’ve missed is named after.. but never mind that: it sounds very nice. I’ll try it next time I’m up.
James, do give me a ring if you’re ever in Hampstead and fancy a drink. And if you go in without me, tell the landlord and/or landlady that Antoine and Jackie sent you. They’ll take very good care of you - Antoine has been going there for years and is great friends with them. (Woody, the landlord, once threw Michael Portillo out of the pub. A reasonable reaction, I think you’ll agree.)
Thanks Jackie, I’ll do that.
I see the info-Nazis at Wikipedia have already deleted the page. Just like they did to XPLANE.
