The personal side of work news
Nokia is the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer. So when they announced today their new on-device marketplace where all Nokia users will go to buy applications, music, videos, ringtones and more, it was pretty awesome for Qik to be part of the announcement as one of the featured apps. (Other partners in the announcement included Fox, FaceBook, and Electronic Arts.)
It’s incredibly gratifying to see the work of our little start-up validated by deals like this, which will put our product in the hands of Nokia’s tens of millions of customers around the world. Live mobile video isn’t just for lifecasters, celebrities and bloggers, but for even non-geeks to share specific moments with their loved ones, no matter where they are on the planet. I’m still in awe that this technology exists, not to mention that I get to work with the team that is pioneering it.
I know it sounds cheesy, but I am always in awe of what our team of developers do. An idea can go from “Wouldn’t it be cool if Qik also did X?” to X being implemented, battered to death in testing, and then released to our users in a matter of a few days. These are people who get up in the middle of the night to do product testing with their colleagues several time zones away, eat lunch (and most other meals) at their desks much of the time, but always manage to crack me up somehow in the course of the work day. They make my job easier and more fun, and I hope they never feel like unsung heroes while I’m around. I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to work and (practically) live with than them.
