The things you do for kids

Dr. Scott’s adorable boy, Sun Su, turned six today. I remember when Sun Su was born, and can’t believe he’s halfway to adolescence already.

We rented a snow cone machine for the party. I was smashing ice bags for two hours this morning because the machine wouldn’t work unless the ice was in teeny tiny bits. I covered the ice bags with a Hello Kitty towel to keep it from splashing. When the neighbor kids asked why I was repeatedly hitting Hello Kitty in the face with a hammer, I just looked at them and hammered faster.

  1. Halfway to adolescence? OMG, you’re right! We’ve got to slow this thing down somehow.

  2. Ooseung has also grown amazingly quickly. She’ll be a teenager in less than a decade. I’m just sayin’.

  3. Sno cone technology is yet another example of complexity run amok. Old-fashioned hand-cranked ice shavers didn’t require any special ice. The motorized sno cone maker we bought for Marissa’s party requires a solid ice block of very specific dimensions.

Fortunately, I discovered that it would work with loose ice as long as I had a “rammer block” to interface with the device.

  4. Guess I’m just going to drive 2 mins down the road and buy everyone a bunch of snow cones rather than get involved in this sort of palaver, then…
